unknown wire?
I was doing the clutch the other day and i came across a wire leading into my transmission on my 72 f-100 styleside three on the tree.Does anybody know what this wire is for. thanks

Unless you've got one of those rare overdrive transmissions, the wire is a stray from some other function. The 3spd backup light is actually mounted at the base of the column, activated by the reverse/first shift arm. You may also have a truck that has had a 3spd installed in place of an original four spd; in which case the wire would have originally gone to the b/u light switch mounted on the 4spd. Try tracking it back to the point of origin; describe that and the color(s) and someone can probably figure out it's function.
