Question How Do I Wire in a new CD Player

How do I wire the ignition wire on the new cd player to the one wire hookup on the stock radio. When I removed the stock radio the antenna, power wire and the speaker wires are the only pre existing wires. I hooked the ignition wire to the one wire power wire and grounded to the body this should have given me power, even without hooking up the memory wire. Do i need to totally rewire the whole radio. Where should my ignition wire and memory wire be hooked and the ground should it go to the battery?

Is the memory wire, the +wire that switches the stereo on/off? Usually called "B" on an amp?

If so,
Hook the "B", or the "switch wire" on your radio/amp to the accessories. That way you can turn the key all the way to the left when your engine is off and listen.

Wire in a sperate wire and fuse for power. The ground can just go to any metal part of the body.

If your stereo doesn't pull much, wire the power and "B" together on the accessories.

Did that make any sense?

the memory wire is for the clock and radio station presets etc. It must go straight to an always hot+, like the battery or one of the always hot terminals in teh fuse box.

Your deck may have a dedicated +12v, that goes to the battery or always hot terminal like the memory wire (they might do this with higher powered decks). ANd then another wire that goes to the ignition, hot with the key on. That would hook to your old stereo power wire or any of the hot accessory terminals when you have the key on. I like to wire radios up straight, so that I can run them without the keys. Not a big deal on these old trucks, but on newer cars, that buzz get's annoying when you leave the door open to hear the tunes.

The ground should just go to nearest clean well grounded piece of metal. there are plenty of places under the dash. Just find a nut/bolt you can remove, clean it up and put crimp connector to go over the bolt.

Remove your dashboard/speedometer panel, behind it you will find a connector with three female bullet connectors. One is used for the voltmeter. You can insert a male bullet connector and run a wire from it for your constant 12+.

Otherwise, the cleanest thing and shortest wire might be to the safety flasher on the dash since it receives a constant 12V.

In either case, I would run a 3 amp fuse with that wire to protect the radio and to disconnect the radio from the battery if I had to jump start or charge the vehicle. Same with welding on the vehicle.

I ran my memory wire to the cigarette lighter, it's close by and is always hot.
