Wash. state emmissions

Hello Everyone

I'm new to the forums here and have a question about a 1996 F-250
diesel I am buying and need to have it emmission tested here in washington state.

The gvwr sticker on the door post states 8800 lb. Is there any tips you can give me to prepare the truck for the test. As far as I know the truck is stock.

Thanks in Advance (can't wait to drive this thing)

Frank

If the truck is stock it should pass...

What all do they test when they do the emissions in Washington?

wa state emmissions

Thanks for the reply.

For trucks over 8500 gvwr they require a snap acceleation test, where
you fully depress the accelerator and quickley release it. Thats the only test the Wa. dot lists on their web site. as I said the sticker on the door post states 8800 GVWR

If they use licensed facilities to perform the test, you could call one up and ask what the test looks for, eg is it a visual inspection for smoke or a metered inspection of smoke?

If it is a government run operation...well good luck getting answers...

I had to test mine a couple of months ago Spokane County, very easy test for opacity (sp) they didn't say anything about my cat being missing. Also they didn't require the pedal to the metal test till the attendant waved his arm this time, just had to hold RPM for a couple seconds about 2500 (till he waved his arm) glad they changed that part of it.

Welcome
This is why I'm glad we don't have to do all that crap here.
Can do anything you want and not have to worry about it

The test absolutely sucks if you're not a full throttle guy. In the snap test, the attendant says go and you floor it in neutral until he says ok. You do that three times. The test is easy to pass if your rigs runs reasonably clean. My high score so far is 8, and the limit is 40 on the opacity reading. It's definately the fastest my motor ever spins.

Man I hate stupid laws...

I'm glad that NC doesn't check emmissions on diesels older than '07. They do check the exhaust for leaks, but don't care that my cat is missing. They made me put a muffler on though.

Moving back to Oregon soon though. No inspections in most of the state except for Portland and Medford.

I'm sure glad I live in a non-emissions county

Well I took the truck down to the test station and it passed, had
to do the snap test, I got a 4 out of a max of 40, so the truck is
running really clean. Thanks for the replys, so now I'm going down
to get Washington plates and a title.

Congrats on passing the test, great score!
I think I got a 4 once and the last time was an 8, I was so glad I passed and didn't get hassled about the missing cat. So in your snap test did they make you floor the pedal? Where in WA are you, what county.
