On my 1973 the switch turns on the bed light, but nothing inside the cab. Makes no difference if the door is open or closed. Switch on bed light on. Switch off, bed light off.
To me, this is the way they should have left the design functioning. From
'68-'72 there was a lighted switch on the dash to let you know the cargo light was on, not this nonsense with the dome light shining in your eyes when you're trying to look out the back window. When I get my '76 flareside more or less finished, I'll install a lighted switch on the dash to operate the cargo light independently of the dome light and bypass that idiotic factory setup.
