Ignition Coil #4
I was told I needed a new ignition coil, #4 in order for the 'check engine' light to be turned off. It runs smooth with no problems. Can I damage the engine running with it like this? Is this just an emissions measuring device?

I took my 98 in for this same problem and found out that Ford is very aware of the problem. It appears that a coolant leak at the rear of the engine drips on the coil and causes failure. Not sure if there is a formal recall cuz my warranty covered, but the mechanic said he saw a lot of these.
