5.8L question

I have searched the forums with no luck. I have always been curious why my 95 with the 5.8L idles rougher than my 96 with the 5.0L. It is almost like the 5.8L has a skip at idle causing it to vibrate and idle rougher but off idle it is smooth and runs great. I always thought this was a problem with just my truck but I noticed all of my friends trucks do the same thing. I have not been able to verify this or find any explanation for this other than someone told me it was due to valve overlap. Does anyone else know anything about this?

A 5.8 should idle as smoothly as the 5.0 so the truck has issues... could be a vacuum leak, bad plug wires, or something similar.
