I will be installing a Holley mechanical fuel pump and regulator in my 76 F-100 302 tonight. I have never installed a fuel pump before, but it doesn't seem to complicated. I have read through previous threads in this forum and it seems all I really need to worry about is making sure the arm goes underneath the cam. I have already taken my power steering pump off to give me plenty of room to work. One question I do have is; will I need to adjust my Edelbrock 650 with the new performance fuel pump installed? This may be a dumb question, but I am a rookie so bare with me. Any help is appreciated.
I may be wrong but I think I remember reading somewhere that Edelbrock carbs like low fuel pressure. So you may have to install a fuel pressure regulator. That may not be true but just in case I wanted to mention it, I'm not trying to give wrong/false info.
EDIT: Sorry I must have skipped over reading the part where you said you were gonna install a regulator.
I'm wanting to know why you need a fuel pressure regulator anyway. You should top out at about 6.5psi, and I don't see why your setup couldn't provide that. Beyond that, your carb will be fine. I doubt there is enough 'performance' in that fuel pump to really make a difference. On one of my 400hp 460's, I've swapped from $15 chinese crap pumps to $100+ Holley 'performance' pumps, to off the shelf electric pumps to 'performance' Holley e-pumps...and I've never touched the carb.

To be honest I don't know why I need a regulator. I ordered the Holley pump from Performance Products here in Knoxville and one of the guys there told me I needed a regulator with the pump. Since I don't know a lot about these performance pumps I assumed he knew what he was talking about (the guys at PP have helped me a lot during this build) It is good to know that I won't have to adjust my carb though.
