Afternoon everybody. I got some bad news today from the Ford dealership. Was having turbo problems and took the 05 6.0ltr Excursion into the local dealership and they diagnosed the problem as being dirty. They pulled the turbo and "cleaned" it and I got the truck back last Thursday. After a short drive, I noticed the turbo was still not spooling and wasn't fixed. I went home and proceeded to call the dealership the next morning(Friday), to which I was told they couldn't get the truck in until Monday morning. So I bring it in Monday morning and I get the call today that the turbo is shot and it needed to be replaced. Bad news is, they also informed me that my warranty expired the Sunday before I brought it in. What BULL******...I called Ford customer care who informed me that they would look into it and call me this next monday. Do I have any legal leg to stand on??? Are there any problems that Ford is aware of with these turbos??? I am desperate, dont have the $2400 to replace it, and feel a little a$$ raped by the blue oval. Any help is most appreciated. thanks
Been a long time since 2005! Did you have an extended warranty? Even with the 5year/100,000 miles warranty, the time has been up for quite a while.
If, in fact, you're warranty was up the day before they could look at it "AGAIN", I believe Ford will cover it as you took it in prior to it being "out of warranty".......
The 5yr/100,000mile powertrain went out on Sunday the 12th of September. I took it to them the first time on Sep. 2. Now Ford is saying too bad so sad...
So you took it to them the 1st time BEFORE the warranty was up and they didn't fix it....sounds like you have yourself the benefit of having your truck repaired under warranty as the problem was written up by a Ford dealer BEFORE warranty expired.
I wish they would...I've got an '05 X, and a '02 F250 c/c. I love these trucks and just wish they would do the right thing. If not, time to try something different. Lawsuit maybe...?
Had turbo issues too and it was just a bad 80.00 EBP sensor. The dealer had even recommended a turbo cleaning and didn't mention the EBP sensor. Went to Ford and picked up the sensor and installed it myself. No more turbo problems. Not saying that is your case but read these forums. There are a few that replaced Turbos, cleaned them just to find out it was just the EBP. Exhaust Back Pressure sensor. It seems if the sensor goes bad it can really mess with your turbo and other stuff on the truck sometimes. Might be worth researching and ask your dealer what codes they found. I believe p0470 is the EBP sensor. However if your turbo isn't working after the first visit within warranty and now your needed return visit is just out of warranty I think they would fix it. If not a Lawsuit would be in order. Especially with that repair bill. Just my humble opinion.
What kind of symptoms did you have when your sensor went out. I would be driving down the road and the turbo would just die. The exhaust would get a bit louder and obviously there was loss of power. If I would gas it, sometimes the turbo would spool to 5-6 psi. Maybe two minutes later it would start working again. This would happen sporadically. Even at an idle it would happen.
Almost exactly like yours. Would be rolling along and the turbo would just cut out with power loss as if the truck was stalling. It would surge back and forth for a while. After a minute all would be fine and it might be the next 5 minutes, hours or even the next day before it would do it again. It would also happen at any speed and at an idle. Sad thing is my dealer knew about the EBP sensor code and didn't explain it to me or what it was. He just said I needed the turbo cleaned and possibly replaced. I researched the code, went out bought the 80.00 part, installed it.(Very easy) and the rest is history. Truck runs great. Cost me 80.00 and the dealer lost a customer. Thank goodness I never gave them the truck to do service on the turbo when the problem was something else. Also that sensor can cause havoc on your turbo and other things as well. Good luck and even if in fact it is your turbo I hope they take care of you. Try to get the codes and my EBP code was p0470.
when you disconnect it it puts the pcm in default. so in default the concern should go away. this would mean that you need to more then likly replace the sensor and or connector.
