More Mileage PLEASE...

Hey, I'm totally new here... and am interested in doing the DPF delete, intake and tuner.
I got a quote from NADP in Edmonton the other day, and the tuner they suggested is the Edge Race Evolution, but I'm reading here and almost everyone is saying go with the Spartan.
Why?
I'm looking for more MPG, but am also worried about my warranty!!
Has anyone had any major problems with their trucks after doing the mods?
I haven't seen a whole lot anywhere about major problems with the 6.4. I own 3 of them and have had no problems so far. The 2 6.0's that I've owned have cost me a fortune in engine repairs on the other hand.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,

I drive a 2010 F-350 Harley Davidson Quad Cab 4x4, 6.4L, 3.55 ratio, Titan tank, leveling kit, rear air bags, and 31" BFG MT's.... With of course, TERRIBLE mileage!

Do your own research and buy the tuner which fits you best. I will of course recommend the Spartan but guys have also had luck with the other tuners out there. I've been running my Spartan set up for over 65,000km and have not had a single issue. If you are worried about warranty then I would advise against a tuner because as you already know any of them can void your warranty (allegedly). It all comes down to what warranty work you need and how deep Ford looks into it. Warranty on a faulty sunroof is no concern but if you cook a turbo or your engine then you could be in trouble. I have not heard any first hand stories of anyone being denied warranty due to a tuner but the rumor mill is full of people that will say otherwise.

In my opinion it's the best money you will ever spend on your truck and you will never regret it.

Spartan... Here is what it comes down too. You can tune and DPF/DOC Delete your truck and probably double your fuel mileage or get well over 20 mpg. Or, you can worry about your warranty, get 9-12 mpg, have your truck make oil and possibly have your DPF clog depending on your driving habits. Personally, I think Ford should thank the aftermarket tuner companies. Do you know how much money FMC is saving by not having to pay for cleaning or replacing DPF's!!! Its got to be in the millions... I use the DPF-R 4.0 + tuner, and I still recommend the Spartan.

What do you have to do to 'double' the mileage and get 'over 20 mpg'? Will the tuner and DPF will do it??
What is realistic to expect from the Spartan?

the onboard computer seems to hover ~12.0 MPG, stock truck with 35" tires no lift except leveling kit.

I hate the green idiots who find its more beneficial to restrict the motor so the MPG drops significantly not to mention the 'carbon footprint' it takes to haul or refine the additional fuel vs. the loss in MPG because of the assinine emission equipment on these trucks. Fing idiots.

I would guess any tune product would void warranty.

Really if this engine was designed to run without the emission equipment does removing it really harm it (sensible tunes only) ? I guess what I am saying is how many engines were destroyed by sensible tunes and modifications to this truck vs. all the worry and turmoil about voiding the warranty.

Why is it Ford can retune the 2011 which if we did would void the warranty but they can with the 11? seems like more BS to me. Maybe cause they built the engine?

I tuned an 03 Cobra I bought new within a week, that car was a monster and hauled can and never had an issue, Ive also had an 05 vette tuned with mods and it never burped but to eat a 15k or so engine build because of a shaky motor worries me.

Double the mileage? Rub a lamp?

Seems like I have seen people get 15-30% better with the Spartan. I get about 20% better, BUT I have my foot in it! Tough not to with the Spartan because it makes the truck so much more fun to drive!

I can almost guarantee that you will not double your mileage, unless your current mileage is insanely bad and the tuner works miracles on your truck. Best case scenario is to expect a 2-3 and sometimes a 4 MPG increase over stock. This will TOTALLY depend on your driving habits though. I drive my truck like a rally car and 98% of it's use is unloaded on the highway at 80-90mph and I have the speeding tickets to prove it. In stock form I was lucky to see 15 MPG going 55 MPH and once I went over 70 MPH it got much worse, sometimes around 10 MPG and that is unloaded!! Now I consistently see 16-17 MPG at the much higher speeds. I know I could get more out of my truck if I slowed things down but how much fun would that be? Plus I get free fuel at work so I'm not as concerned about MPG as others might be. The power and performance enhancements that the tuning made to my truck are worth their weight in gold.

It all depends on your driving habits too. Yes its really hard to keep your foot off of it when you have so much power using a tuner. I went from seeing 9-12 city/hwy to 18-21 mpg on the hwy. The 21 mpg is with one hell of a tail wind too. Yes, I do drive like an old lady between 65-68 mph. Plus I baby my truck, I don't haul or tow. I just drive lots of hwy miles empty. So YES, doubling your mileage or getting over 20 mpg is achievable depending on your situation and driving habits...

Sometimes my lie-o-meter will say 31.4 mpg... Its cool to show your friends, because they have no idea how much of a lie it is.

Do you guys have any thoughts on the Bully dog tuner? How about the Edge Race Evolution? Anyone have any experience with either or know anything about them?

Good tuners too, but Spartan is by far the most recommended on this site. If your going to spend the money on the Edge or Bully Dog, you might as well spend a little more for the Spartan..

all depends on what your wanting to do with your truck

Yes custom tuning is the best. But i know I like having digital gauges and a tuner built into one.. makes things simple.

WTF, did you mean to log off and log on as someone else, or what? You answered yourself, then answered yourself again. I'm calling BS as I'm sure others would like to, though they may have figured it was a waste of time.
