97 Cassette/CD player question
Also, if anyone has a stock cassette or CD player (if it will work) radio that they want to get rid of cheap let me know!
And before you say anything, Ive already tried talking him into an aftermarket one and he "Doesnt want to spend that kind of money on electronic crap."
All the ones I could find that had the cd instead of the cassette, had the premium sound system. The premiums had to have an external amp that is wired in somewhere under the dash. Mine didn't have the premium sound system. The few OEM ones that have the built in amp with the CD are rare and expensive, so I ended up buying an aftermarket radio with a built in amp.
If yours is the premium sound system, you're good to go. But if yours is like mine, you will either have to find an OEM one that has the built in amp(rare), or get one of the common premium ones and get the separate amp that goes with it.
Also, the wiring plugs are different on the '99 & up, so you may have to wire on different plugs. And also, the double din radios will only fit the '99 & up F150's.
I'm trying to remember this off the top of my head, as it's been a while since I did this. But I'm pretty sure this is all correct.
I replaced it with a factory AM/FM/Single CD unit.
Fits like a glove. Works great.
Only needed to get two (2) electrical connectors and make a patch cable for it, very easy.
