I have a stck radio with am/fm/cassette,.....I want to put in a cd player but I want to have it stock, how easy is it to put in a stock am/fm/cd player? and take out this
If you took out your stock deck and put in another Ford deck, it should be a simple switch. I haven't done it in an F-150, but I believe it is simply two wire connectors that would disconnect from the old one and plug into the new one.
On the other side, the factory Ford decks are much more expensive. When I bought my '03, I told them I wanted a CD player and a bedliner. The bedliner was a ford accessory, but the CD player was a pioneer!
I replaced my 99 deck with a CD player. It was pretty easy, if you order from Crutchfield. they will send you everything you need, face plate, wire connectors, instructions, and or special tool to remove the stock reciever.
i just put a cd player in my 97 f-150. it was really easy. it wasnt stock though. i had to buy a special tool to pull the original out and i had to get a wiring kit that just hooks up to the trucks and cd palyers plug in. a stock seems like it might be easier though.
You can duplicate the special tool, which consists of a pair of "U" shaped wires, with coathanger wire. The tools are designed to fit into the four holes found on the sides of the faceplate and release catches that hold the radio in place.
I kept the stock AM/FM Cassette unit in my '97 and installed an Alpine 6-disc CD changer with an RF modulator that runs off the FM radio. Set a frequency on the radio that has a weak or non-existent signal for the CD player to use and you're all set. Only non-stock items are the cabled head unit that you can stick on the dash with a velcro strip and the infrared remote. Works great! Especially as I had previously replaced the stock speakers with Infinity three-ways.
Total cost (without speakers) = $400.00 CAN installed.
gorimi, What year of F150 do you have? I have a 97 and am looking for a stock CD radio but so far I do not think Ford made them to fit a 97. I have been looking on ebay and they all warn of a wiring change in the wiring harness made in '98. Also checked with Ford dealership about Ford CD player and they said they do not have them. I like the big buttons on the stock units. Gusee I will go with an aftermarket unit someday. Good luck.

Why would you make them out of a flexible wire when you can buy the real deal steel ones at wal-mart for $2?
