Hey brian - msuforeman
What kind of problems about superlift have you been hearing? I am just curious, because I have a full size bronco with there 4" lift and had no problems with superlift. I have heards problems with other companies though. Like the Rancho shocks not being worth the money of two cents, so I've heard.
I currently have there whole 4" lift package along with there superrunner steering system: new leaf springs in back(no blocks), Springs up front, 6 shocks(4 up front and 2 out back), and the kit included the drop down brackets for the TTB.
Have not had any problems with it at all, since the lift has been installed 2 years ago. I have traveled on quit a few very bumpy dirt roads, snow packed roads, and highways with pot-holes, I have veried the speed on these roads to get the feel for the ride. I also use it as a daily driver on occasion, not all the time though because of the fuel prices right now. So far the ride quality is very good. I've had passengers that have said that they were also pleased with the ride guality, said that they felt comfortable.
as to the gear swap - true, 3.9+ in the front TTB D44, you do need new stuff.
its not the axle housing though, if thats what you're thinking. its the carrier. in the rear you can use the same carrier again, just change the ring and pinion setup. in the front the carrier goes up to 3.90 and then 3.90+. the carrier is what determines if an axle is locked, LS, or open. So if you have an open carrier up front you'll probably want to change it anyway.
I am also getting the Dick Cepek Stage II 6" lift from this dude at Performance Lifts. (I don't mind being a guinea pig on this one) One other item to think about is to get extended brake lines/hoses with the lift.
Sweet! It seems like a great deal. I am getting the extended brake lines and the additional shocks for my quad fronts. I am also going to order urethane bushings for the shocks and anything else.
What would people think if I did a 9" rear conversion with 4.10 gears and some sort of locker? I would do the 9" rear because I have a free 9" rear and that would let me to prep it without having the truck down.
For the front I would like to do 4.11 and some sort of limited slip. How would the factory limited slip be for the front?
Should I try to find used factory gears or order new ones? If so what make/model/years would give me that gearing?
From what I read 4.10/4.11 should be ok with a 302 and 35"s correct?
Tite4x4---The last couple of people that posted on MBB about installing a Superlift had problems with their drop down brackets not fitting correctly. Again, this has only been in the last 1-2 years. I put a Superlift on a 94 bronk I used to have and it fit fine. I'm just hearing lately that people have been having problems. Maybe the people who have been having problems, maybe their lifts were made on a friday afternoon or monday morning.
I've noticed that no one has mentioned skyjacker. Possibly one of the best companies out there. I've installed skyjacker lifts, superlift, seen pricey pro comp, and rancho. Rancho makes nice stuff but its pricey and for us it only goes to 4 inchs. Pro Comp is crap in my opinion, and i would give them two cents. Superlift is one that i've never been a fan off. But thats me, and my friends. Personally i think skyjacker is the best, with the highest qaulity for the money.
I think the Skylacker lift is a good product, as well, but I'm going with the D.C. lift to save a little $$$. Still thinking about getting new rear leafsprings from SKY-J to replace my old worn-out ones and not use the 4" block.
You can check with Randy's Ring&Pinion or any gear vendor on the ratios for the front D44. I am almost positive that a 4.10 or 4.56 needs a different carrier and case than the 3.55 gears. A limited slip up front would be sweet, too!
I am going to also be upgrading my rear leaf pack to a SkyJacker. I am going to use the Cepek blocks for now and build up a 9" rear. When I am ready with the rear I will swap that in with the new leaf pack.
Can anyone give me a solid answer on the front gearing case?
