Hello All,
I have a 2003 F-350 srw 4wd 5.4 auto.
The problem I am having is when I lock my
manual hubs in and get up to around 35 mph
I hear a squealing in the drivers front. It doesn't
do it with the hubs unlocked. I replaced the
bearing hub assy tonight thinking that was the
problem, but that's not it......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Brian
Did you lube or replace the needle bearing when you disassembled everything?
Also, have you checked the transfer case? It's located front, left......I'm not a tech, just trying to think of things that would make noise in that area..
Sorry I took so long to reply...lost internet service.
I lubed the needle bearing. assembled everything
and no difference.put a new hub assy on. no difference.
Only does it when front hubs are locked
in . I didn't pull it into 4wd.I am thinking axle u-joint.
Any thoughts ? Thanks so much.
The transfer case is basically right below the front seats and in the middle.
Yeah, guess you're right, althought it's more to the left of the tranny, thus placing it under the drivers butt. Next time could you be a little more gentle when you're making me feel like a *******? lol
I am having a similar problem on my '03. Squeals when making a left turn or going in reverse. However, if I touch the brake, it stops right away. Some mentioned the needle bearing, but why would touching the brake make a difference? And, before you ask.......Yes, it does it in 2 and 4 wheel.
Also, Monsta, bldehart has the same front end as I have. Like I said, I'm not a tech so I'm just wondering.....If the hub is not locked, does the axle shaft still turn? If not, then could it be the inner axle seal? I know it has a bearing pressed into it so could that be his issue?
