Very disappointed with my new F450 XL

2 1/2 months ago I bought a F450 XL extended cab w/11' utility bed with 4.10 gears and i'm disapointed with take off power and MPG's. It has a extremely slow take off and I get about 11-12 miles per gallon. It doesn't have the quick response like my 7.3 or my old 6.0 both chipped. I know the power is there as could hardly tell the difference when I load it with 6000lb on the bed. All the hype that these trucks where going to have good MPG's. Does the new flash also cover the F450's and 550's?

The new pickup truck flash 10B17 does not include cab/chassis.
However, PowerStrokeHD provided some info in this topic for CC owners.

pay close attention to how you drive and where your RPM's are you have very short gears which means your motor spins alot more than most guys around here. this has a big effect on mileage.

as to power, most guys on here talk about how they are spinning the tires very easily.

Is it a 2011 6.7 or a 2010 6.4? Sounds more like the 6.4 the way you describe.

Remember that the Chassis/Cab trucks have a different turbo system and MUCH less power. 300HP/660 ft-lbs is all they get. That's 100 HP less than the pickup truck version the rest of us are running.

I have a similar setup, 450 lariat extended cab with 4.10s and 9' stainless steel dump bed. I have around 1k miles on it now and have averaged 12.5 mpg so far. I had a '06 6.0 which was awful and on the best days saw 12.5mpg, so I'm happy with the mileage since it's not broke in yet. I too think that first gear is not very good. I am going to look into the software update and see if it will change anything with the transmission.

This info is perfect explanation. Since I had my truck flashed with the new programming I can say that the transmission shift strategy is the update that has me most excited. I bring this up wondering if the chassis cab folks can at least get a better TCM program? I hate to hear of anyone not being happy with these Ford engines.

I definitely have no complaints about the engine at all so far. Just the first gear take off and the location of the def tank. It's completely unprotected and I can't put a toolbox on until I move it, and ford wants $325 for a relocation kit. Why put it in the exact place where everyone puts their toolbox?

Yes they can, provided the truck was built on or before 8/23 and has yet to be flashed with the latest calibration. All one would need to do is take the truck to the dealer and explain that they are having transmission shifting issues while hinting about TSB 10-18-2 which will have the dealer reflash the truck...

Were the old trucks chassis cabs also? If they were not, then your new truck would be much heavier. The truck you describe in the original post would be much heavier than a pickup truck, I would guess 3,000lbs heavier.

my 7.3 Dually DP tuner & 6.0 F450 with SCT X3 and they pick up speed so much faster. Like everbody says I think it's the trans shift points that make it feel that way. On the highway loaded it has plenty of power so it's not lack of power.
