I've been selling off parts of the original 226 for a couple of months now and really i've sold a couple of internals, mostly bolt ons and I think i've made about $200 off of it. But now my ads aren't getting responses and I have a new engine taking up space in the garage while the 226 and it's 4spd sit on the floor taking up space that I could use.
I really hate to scrap or crush anything automotive (except chevys of course), especially if it's useful to someone else. But I could use the space and the couple bucks from scrapping it. Your thoughts?
Back when I pulled the 226 and 4spd out of my 49 I went through the same thing as you are now. I didn't want to take it to the dump as it was a good running engine and I knew that somebody somewhere needed it. This all happened before I found FTE. I ran and ad on ebay for the engine trans complete (fan to tailshaft). No response at all the first time. A couple of weeks later I ran the ad again. Again, no response, then after a few days from the ad ending I got an email from someone interested in it. We talked on the phone and I ended up selling the whole package for a song and the price of shipping to somewhere in the midwest.
I was happy, the engine was going to be used and I didn't have to trip over it anymore. Keep trying, put an ad here andsome of the other forums, craigslist, etc.
Right now things are slow because the Labor Day weekend is just over and everyone is getting readjusted to the kids being back in school, etc. In a couple of weeks it should sell!
Alright, I guess i'll keep it a little while longer, Mike is right, once it's gone you can't get it back. Although you guys with 226's should want me to scrap it because if I do the value of yours will go up half a cent
i can think of someone here if it was closer that'd prolly jump on it myself . dain things aren't easy to find it seems . no not me ...... not a six guy overall .
