302 Intake Cooling Mods

I have read a post about modifying the intake on 302/351W engines for better cooling. (It involves some T's, nipples and heater hose.) Do any of you have a photo of this mod? Thanks in advance!

Didn't read the link but aint those to HEAT the carb NOT cool it? the CB site can help if you've got one. If you're full sz I think that's broncofix, broncozone another FTE bronco or 351 page, or 1 of the others...
Why ya think it needs it?
Let us No how U do.

Thanks for the link, CB has just bout anything bronk.
Still don't get it. Looks like it's for just one specific intake? Seems like it's pumpin H2O outta the radiator? How's that "cool" it. Seems like it'd B "hotter". Why it don't get down the valley & into the motor? Only 1 lill' gasket for safety there....
I hang out here w/the 4.9 guys n they rig up a similar stock/mod hybrid to heat the carb called a "H2O choke". It's higher - between the the carb. & the intake. Only reason some don't like it is cuz it heats up a little too slo (U need the heat @ start up 4 a choke n the motor ain't that hot yet).

Chad,

The way I understand it is that this mod gives better circulation in the rear of the intake, to better cool the head areas. Coolant still pumps the same way-the pump sucks it from the bottom of the radiator, thru the block, the heads then out the intake, either thru the heater core, bypass hose or the open t-stat.

Thanks John, I must B pretty ignorant...still seems like it would make things hotter. Esp if the t-stat is the last place (as U describe above) it goes. I guess the intake gets hot from the motor n this is a way (I believe in theory only n a poor theory @ that) to cool it. Oh, now I see you add the head. OK makin more sense now. Don't believe any motors have waterjacket in the head. So this could help there...
Great, hope it wrks, is kinda innovative to me. Must wrk if the guys mod toward it. (& may B ford built it that way too it seems). Don't try to explain it further to me, I'm gunna pass on it. I have NO automotive theory n some of the folks on here have been helpin me w/ it. The electrics I aint even touched - really esoteric to me. I love the true gearheads, respect them for the yrs of "study", experience, skill and, yes - talent. Buddy made an $80,000 rod 4 one of our mates from absolutely scratch (OK a 1930s frame n /60s chrysler motor he put a blower on). Had a ?450? motor, guy was a trucker so boxed it up in a 30' box n dragged it out to Bonneville Salt Flats w/his tractor. Got it up over 220 mph! Drives it almost daily around here.

Chad,

The Bronco in question is at my family's radiator shop. It has a supposed rebuilt engine that is running 220-230 after the t-stat opens. The more we question the owner, the fuzzier the info gets. We haved cleaned and flow checked the radiator, checked the water pump, flushed & filled the system with coolant and used two different t-stats.

He has now taken the truck to a mechanical shop to check the timing which will be a chore, since the timing pointer was left off the engine front. Other possibilities could be the intake and/or head gaskets being incorrect or installed backwards.

I will give an update Monday.

an update Monday
Cool (or may B not "cool"/"un cool" but) Great.
We know bronks run hot due to the design of hood/engine bay/need for a damn @ core support. Got some names (& 2 emails - locoponies, bcbroncos) of guys who run 351s @ Baja. If nothing wrks U may contact them (OR & TX). The bubble or scoop is not the answer. There is an inner fender ventilation product some have found useful. Seems like this is a rebuild job n some 4 get to clean out the oil passages...?
Good luck, let us know how the fix (may B contact broncofix or, again CB) goes.
____________
o0OOPPs, just looked @ the thread title "302", that should run even cooler? Hummm...

These engines make their power off of compression not boost like the newer diesels. So without a reflash you wont be able to go over 9psi without defueling. With a reflash you could go up to 15. So, best bets, your given gauge setup, full exhaust, turbo master, fuel mods, then a chip. If you want to get fancier go with a less restrictive turbo and install an intercooler. These trucks wont be able to pull mountains like the new ones can. But you will be surprised on how these mods wake up a stock 6.5.
A few of my vehicles have had leaking transfer cases and its a pain to find good used engines. Any one got any suggestions other than junkyards?

FTE Family,

Not quite how E.B. morphed into Diesel talk. Anyhow, the E.B. owner had his mechanic install new head gaskets, and we have not heard from him since.

I will give him a call tomorrow.
