He He...At least you were in a 4wd ranger...I had that exact thing happen to me while I was a passenger in a honda accord. I looked over and the deer's stomach was at eye level....not a good feeling....
At least you're physically ok. I read about someone in Pittsburgh (a few years back) who hit a deer. The damn thing went through the windshield and started kicking. Killed the woman who was driving (who was, incidentally, pregnant. Damn shame.) So at least you're ok.
I have seen Elk get hit here in Washington and completely remove the top of the car. Fold it back like a can opener. There has been more than a few deaths around here from car/elk collisions.
The last one I helped work was an estimated 1000# cow elk versus a Honda Accord. The poor woman driving never knew what happened. Ripped half of the cars top of and decapitiated her. It was a very sad and disgusting crash scene.
Don't go messing around with elk. They will tear the front of a semi off in the blink of an eye or a honk of the horn. I had front row seats when I saw it happen. I don't think there is a meaner animal that fears absolutely nothing.
I have never hunted moose, but from what I understand, a bull moose is really ornery. Never have had a bad encounter with an Elk yet, at least one that was bad for me
Thanks for all the replies, especially about the moose and elk. We have none of those aorund here, just too many deer, but I guess it could have been a lot worse. As I was driving home last night in my POS Saturn, I realized I could have been driving THAT thing, and the damage would have been a lot worse. Not only to Plasti-Car, but to me as well, for I'm sure little Bambi would have come right up over the hood and into the windshield. I guess I can live with a broken grille and bent bumper.
I was driving my old Saturn down the highway one night, going too fast in the left lane on a very straight stretch of road in western Denver Metro, and I just "decided" to change lanes, for no reason, really. Best thing I ever decided to do, because as I was changing lanes, a deer leaped over the jersey barrier in the middle of the highway into the left lane. I whizzed by that thing at about 80, never even had time to move my foot over to the brake pedal. I made eye contact with that punk...
Needless to say, I slowed down to 65 and went straight home to change my undies!
