either buy one from sky-manufacturing.com for 450 or just make one? I've got some half inch plate that's overkill but I don't mind going heavy. What do yall think. It's 450 vs 150.......
honestly I was thinking about doing this oreo, I don't know too much about these reversal kits but I was going to use 5/16" or 3/8" plate because I have access to it and all the equipment I would need in welding trade school I go to, I was thinking because I still want my front of the truck lifted 1.5"-2" so this would be real cheap for me, wouldnt even have to pay for the steel.
I want to replace my stock shackles and figured this would be a great time to do this, funny you posted this today I started thinking alot about it only a few hours ago
ya, I've been thinking about it for a few monthsbecausethe kits are 700 everywhere til I found the sky kit. But I think it's s till a better deal to build it myself
yeah I think I'm going to get a picture of a kit and just wing it from there in the shop, I decided on 3/8" if you have access to a plasma cutter I would use that oreo, can be much more precise for making the bolt holes and shaping the plate itself than using a torch and since this is suspension I want it to be top notch for my truck, unfortunately theres a bunch of new kids this year so for the next week and a half I wont even be able to step foot in the shop until these new kids are up to par on safety
im gonna cut it all with a bandsaw. cleaner cuts, doesnt get more precise then that. then use the drill press to make the holes. im welding this thing to the frame when im done too.
lucky oddly thats the one piece of equipment we dont have in our shop is a drill press haha! I might sneak into machine shops class and drill real quick, Oreo I don't understand how your going to weld it on the frame, don't it need to pivot somewhat around the frame bolt

no, the front doesnt move at all. it gets bolted/welded to the frame securely and the rear shacle is the only pivot point. the leaf does rotate slightly on the hanger, but that pivots on the bolt between the leaf and hanger.
I know it's not a ford (my dually is in the background) but I did this on my sami. If your making your own make sure you measure caster and pinion angle and match the measurements. If not you can have big time wander or other issues. Also 3/16" or 1/4" is plenty thick enough if boxed out.
ya, i know 1/4 is more then enough BUT ive got a nice piece of 15x18x1/2" layin around here. might as well use it. it will give me just enough to do the 4 drops, then ill use some of this 1/4" ive got to box it in.
ok, so its 85 bucks for the shackle piece of the kit from sky, comes with the bushings ect. think im gonna just buy that piece and build the hangers. just bought the rear flip kit from idiguy and am going to get the sky shackle for the rear that will give an extra inch of lift. that will bring my frame height with the airbags down 36" exactly and squatting a little in the rear.
