cruise kicks off while pulling a load

i have a 2001 supercrew with a 5.4, auto and four wheel drive. it has 130,000 miles on it and a fresh tune-up,all 8 coils, plugs, injection cleaning, etc. when i pull a big hill with the cruise on, mostly with a trailer full of toys, it will down shift to third, run up to 3 or 3500 rpm and then before i get to the top of the hill the cruise kicks off. it seems to run fine, the cruise always turns back on, its just kind of a pain. all i can think of is a knock senser, but i have never heard it ping? maybe i should try some high octane gas. i'm sure there are some smart people on here that know what is causing this so thanks in advance for the help! PS the truck has stock everything, tires, gears, etc

Normal. See "Speed Control" section of your owner's manual.

Use your right foot when driving in hills with a load.

Agreed, normal. If the truck loses enough speed on the hill it will shut off the cruise and you have to reset it once back up to speed.

Using CC towing heavey loads amounts to engine abuse in my opinion.
You have to accepts some speed change while towing to be reasonable.

Cruise will usually kick off after losing 3-5mph, you really should take a bit of a run at the hill if it is pulling you down that much.
