So i went to change the waterpump in my 78. I noticed the bolt that holds the bottom alt bracket near the oilpan was loose. Turns out its broke off back in there about 1.5". Does anyone know if that boss bottoms out or is it open into the inside of the motor? Its not a problem to drill it out and tap it but i dont want metal shavings inside the motor.
I don't know, but you can hold a shop vac hose right up against it while drilling. I have done that before while drilling out, and installing helicoils in a head
Just my opinion, but EZ outs are the worse thing you can use. 90% of the time they break and then you have a real problem. A reverse drill bit is a much better solution, and some times you get lucky and the bit actually backs the broken bolt out.
