Getting ready to put back together my 85 f-250 now that i'm back from school. When I took it apart in the spring the intake mesh was all mangled, don't ask me how it happened I bought it like that. But I cant find replacements online anywhere does anyone know where to get one or should I just search the junk yards
guess they figured we are always wrenching on our trucks so make it stupid simple to not let a rag or tool get inhaled. I use it to set all the glow plug relay nuts and washers on, hahaha.
ya, i havent seen where you can get them, and its more trouble to make one then its worth. uness you just get some expanded metal and throw it on there. i had an extra perfect condition one but gave it to my neighbor. i might have another if you wanna throw one on bud. ive got extra parts everywhere here lol
I kind of thought it wasn't need, if your sucking up stuff big enough to get caught by that thing your probably doing something wrong. But if you guys say I don't need it I guess I'll just leave it off. thanks for the input
Yeah i have my old one laying around as well. If you maintain the truck and keep an eye out for nesting critters, you will be fine. I am in that compartment so often, dust doesnt have a chance to settle....oil does but hey i think they all leak a little lol.

If you get a runaway N/A diesel that screen will be the only thing to catch a rag to stop the engine from running. That's enough for me to keep it.
With a runaway, are you going to take the time to remove the air filter housing? My guess is no so that rag will only suck to the air filter so i would do like some of the others and have a block off place made from plywood and a silicone rubber face. Im pretty sure i wouldnt want to get near an engine doing that though.
Typically a run away happens while working on the motor, the air box is typically off. (or is for those that know what they are doing and know they could very well have a run away)
If you have a run away with the air box on ... RUN!
Stuffing a rag in the air box snorkel will do little, it'll suck it in and only partially block the air filter. (possibly enough to choke it slowing it down some, but will not kill it unless you get lucky)
