My 81 250 HD has a radiator that needs replacement...Anyone have any suggestions for a good replacement (or what not to get)? My truck has a big radiator-3 rows of 34 (tow package)...Anyone purchased one from LMC? They show one that physically appears ok, but no info specifying whether it is constructed of copper or aluminum? I have done a search on the internet but everything I found has 2 rows, not 3...
I did check Autozone, they have two options, a 2 and a 3 row, but when you look at the specifications, both have the same part number and it is the 2 row.
3 rows, 27 1/2" x 19 5/8" x 1 7/8" core size. $186.99
I know it's hard sometimes to get good service at these places, but the advantage is no shipping charges, and the lifetime warrenty. If it doesn't fit or there is a problem, you just take it back, no return shipping hassles. I am sure some of the other local places sell this radiator, I am just too lazy to look it up with dial-up service.
Thanks for your response...I will check again but something is not right. Notice the 3 row is thinner then the 2 row. My radiator is 2 5/16 thick X 27 1/2 Wide and 19 5/8 H. I do like Autozone because of the warranties. I keep my vehicles forever and they (Autozone) have been good on lifetime warranties. As far as salvage radiators, I have changed out to many and willing to pay a reasonable price for a new one. Have had bad luck on radiator repairs also.
The thickness is not necessarily important. It's how much surface area the radiator has. You will have to look at the radiator and judge for yourself if it has the same surface area your old one has. Three rows of tubes should have more surface area exposing the fluid to the air than 2 rows, even though the 2 row may be thicker.
When I replaced mine, I purchased it from a reputable local company that specializes in automotive air conditioning and radiators. I got a high quality Modine which was an exact replacement.
