Switch from a D50 to a D60?

I need new front axle shafts in my truck and the best way to get them is by just getting the whole axle out of a parts truck.

I have one of the 99-01 trucks with a solid dana 50 front end.

If I get the axle out of an 02+ truck, will the whole thing just bolt right up giving me a Dana 60?

I would assume so as the F-350 duallys got a Dana 60 in 02, but the real question Bill, is why? The axles are rated at exactly the same FGAWR for the 99-04 series, dependent of course, on the spring rates. (Max was 5200) If you are not running a plow or some other type of heavy equipment on the front, it won't matter.

I'm assuming that your 2000 F350 is a SWD. If yes, then you will need to look for a 2004 F250/F350 SWD truck to get the Dana 60 front axle.

Yes, its a 2001 SRW F350.

I am planning on off roading and tractor pulling with it, and I am just worried about breaking it.
It already needs to be changed from the PO tearing it up, so this would be the perfect time to upgrade.

So the SRW trucks started getting the Dana 60 in 2004?

I suspect Wiki is a little sketchy on the years and info.

I really wouldn't worry about it Bill. The Dana 50 is a really solid axle. I doubt you'll have problems with it, especially since you aren't loading it down with anything.

I would relay more on the users opinions, than on factory specifications.
My Dana 80 blow up for no clear reason. I was driving with no load, on almost flat highway and moderate speed. The bearing cage come apart and messed up everything, but the bearing parts didn't show any wear out, so I am still puzzled how that could happen. The bearings were Japanese. I replaced with Timken.

it will bolt up but some things are different. there's a stabilizer bar that bolts up to a bracket on the drivers side. the ends of the bar are bigger on the 2002 and the holes are bigger on the bracket where the bolt goes through. that's about it.
