Steering knuckle front axle question...

So hubs/brakes interchange between same year Dana 50 and Dana 60 axles, I know that already.

I need to know if the steering knuckles are interchangable between a D50 and a ball-joint Dana 60...

Anyone know???

I have a '94 Dana 60 missing hubs and brakes, but I have a Dana 50 which is supposedly a '97 axle that is complete. Will the whole knuckle swap over?

I've been told that's a no-go, but haven't tried it myself. I do know that the spindles are different between the 50 and 60, which would lead me to believe that the knucles are too and won't swap over.

Stole this from Pirate 4x4...

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping that the hubs and rotors from the D50 will fit.

Since they switched caliper styles in '95 I'm not sure that the '95 calipers I have will work on a '94 axle. The '95 rotors are 13", the '94 rotors are 12.5". Other than that they seem to be the same.

So it looks like I'll either be able to swap all the brakes from the newer axle onto the '94 axle, or I'll have to get '94 rotors/calipers for it...

I would think the '95 rotors and calipers would work fine together on the new axle. I learned you can't mix and match the hard way. I put my '97 hubs and rotors on an '88 kingpin axle/calipers. Seemed to work fine, but I noticed some sqweeling when I wasn't braking. Took it apart and noticed two neat 'new' grooves in my calipers. Two new rotors later I was back on the road. The '97 hubs fit just fine, just not the rotors.

Going back and looking at your axle pictures I think you might want to consider getting 'new' spindles for the D60. They look pretty rusted where the bearings seat.

The D50 knuckle has cast in guides for brake pads. The D60 has bolt on calipers. The calipers for your 2wd front axle will fit on the D60 knuckles.

I took the calibers off a 97 f 250 with a Dana 50 ttb and bolted them on a 96 f 250 2wd

Cool, that's what I needed to know.

Yeah, I should. Where can I find some? Or can I get them bead blasted or something to clean them up?

Yep, I measured the bolt holes and they are the same width. Just wasn't sure if the bigger rotors would work on the axle that came with smaller ones.

Sweet. I looked up part numbers and the '95 2wd calipers are the same as 97 4x4's

You can usually find a used set on eBay for less than $100, or check a junk yard, but finding a Ford D60 in a junk yard is hard enough.

Any chance Chase still has the ones from Whitey and are they any good?

I have all the parts and they are in good shape (minus the ball joints). But I already have 2 other guys wanting them...

I've got lots of ford loving friends that can probably hook me up. You know what year range will work?
