I have been having problems with the hub locking in on the passengerside of my 79 Bronco.
Took the hub apart yesterday and noticed the axle shaft has quite a bit of slop in it not letting it line up right for the hub to engage. Is there a bearing that the axle shaft runs through when it goes into the spindle to hold it stationary?
I was going to go ahead and take it all apart to pack and adjust the wheel bearings.
The other side is fine no slop in the the axle shaft so it lines up good for the hub to engage.
Thanks for any help.
In the back of the spindle there is a bearing. I can't imagine it being SO bad that the hub won't line up, though. You course of action is probably best. Just rebuild/repack it, and then you will know everything is fine.
I first suspected the u-joint only to find it is in great shape. So it must be the spindle bearing. I'm going to pick up some new wheel seals spindle bearings and seals for both sides and repack and adjust the wheel bearings and I should be good to go.
