Bakflip f1

Anyone who has a bakflip f1 have anything good or bad to say about it and maybe others to consider?

I have one - easy install, very versatile and very strong. Its expensive but you get what you pay for. I prefer the four section flips vs the 3 sections flips. I like that it fits between the rails so stake pockets are fully accessible. I also like that it flips up against cab giveing full access to the box up to the height of the rails as opposed to some rollups that take up some space inside the box. I also like that you can open the tailgate without having to lift the cover.

On the downside, it is not waterproof by any stretch but that goes the same for any other rollup or folding cover. Also, even though you can open the tailgate without lifting the cover, it would be unwise to try closing the tailgate without lifting the cover - more of an inconvenience if you are trying to onehand something into the back of the truck.

My main reason for buying the F1 was I wanted a folding cover that was both strong to withstand snow in the winter and could remain relatively cool in the summer when temps here go above 100. The HD is aluminum skinned and gets hot - the F1 is fibreglass skinned and stays pretty cool. The cover is also strong enough to sit on as a bench when folded and I'm going to fabricate a custom quick release rack for the top of it for bikes and such.

Overall I am very impressed with the quality and fit on the new truck.

rdenis, Do you know if the mounted rails on the F1 would interfere with the bed extender? I ordered my truck with the extender and don't know if the rails will interfere with this? Then again, if it does, I suspect that all mounted covers would too...????

Not sure about the bed extender - I'll shoot a picture of how the rails are mounted and measure how much they drop below the rail.

Do you know the dimensions of the bed extender?

I just looked at a video on Youtube of the extender on an F-150 - if its the same as for the SD, you won't have a problem.

I have the BakFlip HD. Love it... my bed stays dry with the exception of the area right around the tail gate.
Super easy to install. Check out the videos on BAK industries website they are the real deal and not fluffed videos.
The HD cover does get HOT to the touch on the outside but is very surprising how it is not that hot inside the bed.

I would buy another BakFlip HD again.

Thanks sounds like it is a good deal looking to keep my tools back there and every once in a while open it up to transport air conditioning equipment...if you dont mind me asking what did you pay for the F1 and was it installed by you or a dealer

I installed the BAK flip HD and I love it - I have a under the rail tool box for the heavy stuff that I dont want rolling around and it fits perfectly under my BAK flip - also the small bolt down panel near the cab - is made custom for my bed so that my truck box is able to be opened on a 90 degree angle to access all of my tools and other equipment in my box - It is sweet.

I paid around a thousand bucks and installed it myself - took about twenty minutes.

That's cool. Does it fold up flat against the back of the cab? One more pic please?

Clever use of floor mats... I have them on my garage floor.

Most people have a Photobucket account (free) and past the link to the photo in the message box. Others use their galleries on this site but I haven't done that.
