to all of you that dont know, there was a guy in south korea who started a fire on a subway train in south korea, killing about 120 people... this can basically be labled a terrorist attack...
alot of these little countries laughed after Sept. 11th, i dont know if south korea was happy america got attacked or not.... but maybe now they will take the terrorism issue a bit seriously.
i remember seeing on the news videos all sorts of countries looked like they were having parties after the trade towers fell.
WHY ?? America doesnt celibrate over tragedies that take place in other countries...
ok, lets not start a Thread War 11 in here, i was just wondering what any of you felt. i certainly dont think anyone should be burned alive because of a madman... so why do these pathetic countries laugh when our citizens are slaughtered on planes and buildings?
I am in south Korea right now. I doubt too many of them laughed at 9/11. There are many protesters that protest U.S. military presence since there were two little girls accidentally killed in an accident involving 2 U.S. troops. These people are young and uneducated and have no idea what South Korea was like until we got here. For the most part South Korea's general public is in favor of the U.S. Terrorism is not a new thing to them either.
Just like Ratsmoker said, those people in other countries that celebrate the death of others do so because they are wholly uneducated, and they have no respect for the peace that they live in now because of the western nations that have stepped in to their world. They take their freedom for granted, because it's our troops that have died to give to them.
There is an old man I talk to every once in a while here. He is called G.I. Joe. He is 70 years young and he tells a lot of stories about the war. Pretty interesting guy to talk to. He is really bothered by the protesting. He says if these young people had any idea what it was like before the U.S. stepped in and helped they would be saying thank you. Freedom is fairly new to these people and protesting is a way they can express this freedom. They often don't really care what they are protesting about. They are just happy to be protesting something.
I thought they treasured their elders and listened to them.
I also thought they (NK) were interested in saving face and wouldn't take our money for not developing nuclear weapons and break their word in front of the whole world.

Why aren't they protesting the fact that North Korea is violating treaties, starving its own people, building atom bombs and pointing them at peace loving countires? This is going on right in their back yard and yet they want to protest the USA? Who's educating these people?

Like I said the percentage of them against the U.S. is very small and I have seen a few of these protests in person. They march up with their little candles and one guy with a bull horn starts talking jibberish (to me anyway). They probably aren't protesting NK because once again it is young people only that do the protesting and they aren't really effected by North Korea. This is a differnent culture all together. Very good question though. I hope this thing stays peaceful for a while. Either way NK will fall in my opinion. The ecomomy there is failing miserably. SK on the other hand has a decent economy which is growing at exponential rates. Here is something to think about... I feel safer walking around downtown alone at night here than I would in downtown L.A.

So much for that self promoting Bull huh?
Their leader is all about attention to himself and playing mindgames with the world. As for treasuring their elders, kids will be kids no matter where in the world you are.. They do respect their elders very much but again they are going to try this "freedom" thing out for all its worth.
ratsmoker, what kind of feeling to you get about the NK people? The reason I ask, is that when the eastern european communist block began to crumble and finally disintegrate, the magnitude of the people who came out and demonstrated, peacefully, in the spirit and cause of freedom inspired the heck out of me. That as much as anything left the leaders of those countries with no choice, since the military saw what the people really wanted and refused to move against them. I don't get the same impression from the NK people, that they would stand up like that against their evil leaders if push came to shove. Nor do I trust the NK military to "do the right thing". Am I wrong?
