looks like 77&79F250 possibly has a line on a used one in a j/y near him. Hopefully that will be the last piece of the puzzle I need to get functioning parking brakes!
Found out that my 1979 came with a cable that had a threaded rod on one end, and did not use the pivot bracket and mount. Being that it's been about 2 or so months since I bought them, I can't return to LMC without losing pretty much everything. So, if anyone needs a brand new cable, equalizer rod & bar, let me know. I'll sell them for cheaper than what LMC charges, and a lot less in shipping.
My truck also has the threaded rod front cable set-up, not the equalizer bar set-up. It's a 78 F150. Been going crazy as everything points to the equalizer set-up.
same here. Spent weeks and weeks and weeks researching, dropped around $70 in parts and got angry when none of it fit. At least now I know that was I had was correct and factory installed.
Something else to check is the brake adjustment. If the brake adjustment is too loose the parking brake will barely work of not work at all.
You state that you adjusted to brakes until they started to drag, This is incorrect, you must tighten the adjusters until they cannot be turned any more. Then you insert a a small screwdriver and push in on the ratchet while reversing the adjuster until the tire will turn with just with just a slight drag.
The way Ford trucks hold their shoes to the backing plates prevents adjusting like drums on cars.
don't worry about it. Found out that my truck didn't come with it and has a different style of parking brake system. I've already bought the correct parts and don't need the bracket, so it worked out. Thanks for the offer though!
got it together the other night, was so tight that when I pushed down on the pedal, the swaged ball on the end popped right off and shot the cable into the sheath. Got a replacement, and this one is just about as tight. Installed it, adjusted the parking brake bracket inside the drum so that it was all the way in, still just as tight. With new drums, pads, cables and hardware, I think I need to run a little ways riding the brakes to allow for some adjustment.
