I've got a Blaupunkt CD Head Unit powering some old roadmaster 6x9's in my doors, the problem i'm having is that the speakers crackle when i take off, or when i push the accelerator (they play fine otherwise)..but only when the truck is in motion, i could rev it sky high and no noise.
I'm thinking its the alternator going bad and surging, but i'm not sure.
Check your connection of the speaker in the doors. Make sure the connections are tight and that the speakers are mounted very securely. It sounds like they may be loose, causing them to vibrate in the door. Lemme know what u find.
Sounds to be a ground loop or poor ground. Do you have an after market amp, equalizer, or other device in the audio system? Who installed your after-market parts? Check your head unit ground... make sure it is secure and not hooked to another device. Also make sure you speaker wires are not near any DC voltage sources. Speakers wires is suseptible to noise induction.
i installed the stereo myself... there a no aftermarket amps, eq's or anything else in the system, the speakers are powered off of the head unit itself.
The wires are pretty much isolated except for where they connect to the constant hot, switched and ground.
I do not have an extra ground lead attached to the stereo, just the ground wire running to the battery and the stereo antenna acting as a ground.
did you use a wiring harness or splice into existing wire? Generally you ground the black wire from the head unit to a chasis ground. Grounding through the battery could possibly cause alternator whine as RPMs increase.
i did the wiring myself. i got the power side correct, in that i didn't run it to the battery, but i did run the ground there, while i should have connected it to the chassis somewhere.
Thanks for pointing that out, i gotta change that in the morning!
yeah you should have factory grounding wire you can tap into that grounded the original unit, that by itself should be sufficient. i think the headunit is just malfunctioning maybe with regulating the power supply, if you have a warranty take it back and try that. you might also check your factory wiring to your speakers, it might be bad.
edit: you said you were running old roadmasters? if these speakers are in bad shape i would consider testing a new one before anything
well, they still play fine, and the radio has since stopped making that noise. I tapped into the radio ground from the original radio and that cured me right up.
As for the factory wiring for the speakers, i ran that all new, so i knew it would be good.
