My 2000 F250 SD left me stranded this morning. I went to shift gears and pressed the clutch pedal in, and it stayed in - it won't come back up and engage. I had to get picked up and go to work so haven't looked at it at all yet - anyone here have any clues as to what might the problem might be?
If its not leaking fluid it sounds like a master cylinder or slave cylinder has went out or possibly the clutch fork bent on you. I have had them all happen to my truck.
Well make sure that the rod/actuator arm that attaches to the pedal and goes through the firewall didnt come loose. This happened with my truck.........simple fix!!
I didn't get time to check the fluid levels, but didn't see any fluid leaking onto the road at all. I did try pulling the pedal up by hand but it wouldn't budge.
There is a fairly strong "helper spring" that will hold the pedal to the floor.
If the clutch is not pushing back on the pedal it will hold the pedal on the floor.
It shouldn't take a lot of effort to pull it back up.
If it really won't budge, then something is hung up on the clutch pedal assembly.
.
And I agree on the little clip that holds the plunger to the pedal, that's the first place to look.
Well I had a quick look at lunch time and the fluid levels are OK, no leaks etc. I was able to pull the pedal back up (wasn't trying hard enough earlier I guess). So does this point to the plunger rod being loose as suggested earlier - I didn't really get time to have a good look under there?
When this happened to me on my 01 f250 it turned out that the throwout bearing seized and ended up cutting the fingers off the preassure plate and when I pusshed it in it would get caught and the pedal would stick down. I hope for your sake it is a easier fix because if you have the problem I had it means replacing the clutch assembly which is mucho denero.
Well I would say that if the fluid is full then the problem is on the Trannie end, could be a number of things. Check to see if you can see the position of the fork. If it is complete out and won't move or moves freely then the trannie needs to come out to inspect the clutch.
