Im about to buy the paint for my 1955, 223 engine. I have two questions, first what website's would ya'll reccommend to buy the paint from. I've been looking at Auto Body Repair Tools Shop, Auto Body Supplies, Automotive & Classic Car Restoration - Eastwood , they have the "Ford Dark Blue" i want, 1 quart for $32.99. My other question is how much paint will i need, in quanity's of quarts? Im painting the Whole engine block, valve cover, oil pan, all the housing units. I plan on putting on about three coats (but that's just what i've read i should do)
A couple local engine builders use Aervoe aerosol paint on their engines. I now buy it by the case...it goes on smooth as silk and looks like powdercoat when dry. Engine Enamel :: Paints and Coatings :: Aervoe Industries Inc.
They carry all car manufacturer colors including both the early and late Ford blues.
Personally, I wouldn't buy paint from a website. I would go to my local auto paint store and get everything I need in one shot, and save time and shipping costs. Paint is considered a hazardous material so there's additional costs involved beyond normal freight. You can talk directly to the folks and get exactly what you need and advice on how to use the products. They can mix any color you want while you wait. My 2c.
I agree about buying the paint locally, hazmat charges will kill you... and also, be sure to wear a good respirator when using any paint with a hardner, or any spray paint for that matter
Just my 2¢, I used POR-15 engine paint. It comes as a kit, cleaner, primer and paint with all the brushes. It does brush on and looks streaky but the paint is high solids and levels out like glass.
Tractor supply has a Ford blue in spray bombs tha really does a great job. The paint is made by Valspar and holds up extremly well. I have used there tractor refinishing paint with hardener with very good results. There a good product at a decent price.
