I called the dealership where my truck is going into to get serviced by Ford, and I was asking the Service Dept questions about bringing my own oil to use because I wanted to go with RP 15W-40 and the person tells me "We have received new information from Ford, they recommend using 10W-40 oil instead of 15W-40." Their reason because the oil can withhold better heat and cold temperatures and has better vescosity. Am I just behind on times or is this really new info? The Rep also told me to not use synthetic oil and stick with simple Motor Craft 10w-40. Any thoughts?
There is only one 10w-40 diesel rated oil that I know of at that is the Rotella T5 synthetic blend. Motorcraft has the 15w-40 dino and 10w-30 dino oil, they do not have a 10w-40 diesel oil. What I've heard is they recommend the 10w-30 now.
im pretty sure the rep said 10w-40. i think motorcraft used to have that kind of oil but i heard its rare to find these days and i don't even think its CJ-4.
My guess would be they want nothing to do with you bringing in your own oil and scrambled for any story to get out of it. They should be honest and just explain insurance and warranty issues and refuse any work using the clients parts or fluids.
IIRC the book lists a 10-40 as an option in winter but with our 6.0L we always used 10-30 in winter and I would assume the 6.4L can take the same.
well either I heard wrong or the lady that I talked to the other week didn't tell me the right info. It is 10w-30. It was pretty cheap 4$ quart ( I am in Canada) so for me it seemed like a good price for motorcraft oil. Oil and Fuel filter on the other hand not so great. I believe it was 90$ for fuel filters and 38$ for oil filter. They recommend 10w-30 all year around.
i actually live in hope. you've probably passed through this small town. 5000 km or mi? i would just purchase their oil since its on sale for 4 bucks a liter (the bulk size works out to a dollar more for a gallon) and get the filter and get like great canadian oil to do it all for you for 25 bucks. well do it yourself if you can i just didnt have the time. works out like 140 incl taxes. not bad if you ask me.
