Why did he quit using it?

I know a lot of people were using that system a while back, but for some reason they just seemed to go away.

he stopped using it cause he upped his turbo size and didnt need it to cool his egt's anymore. he never ran it as a power adder it was only for cooling, he said he never noticed a power gain but the system is progressive so it may not be noticeable without a dyno. it definitely made his truck run cooler. now a friend of mine runs it on his 12 valve and you can feel it, but his isnt progressive its turned on by a switch. i know the dodge guys swear by the stuff but the diesel power article said we could see good gains or at least the idi motors would i assume we would too. im just looking for a jumping off point. i was hoping for more feedback.maybe ill get some tomorrow.

I've often thought about getting one for my rig. The IC I installed sure helps. Haven't gotten the temps high enough since to make H2O necessary, but still keeping the idea rattlin around.

Scott (Cookie88) had one on his truck.
I don't remember what the reason was , but I do know he pulled it off.

cant remember why i didnt put it on there but i did autometer gauges on the a-pillar at the same time i did the chip. watchin boost and egt's. im not hugely concerned by my temps the most im seein pullin a decent grade is 1200, is that way high? now that 1200 is very short lived its not like im holdin that temp for long periods i was thinkin more of the water to keep em down as much as possible but i was also hopin to see some gains on the dyno. the only reason im not saving the money and putting it towards injectors is that im gettin the system cheap from my boss who is also my oldest best friend, we go way back. thanks for the concern and the good advice though, and i didnt take it the wrong way.

1200 is hot just don't stay in that range very long you could melt a piston what temps do you see on a normal drive say 70mph

I run a Devil's Own EGT progressive controller feeding a 1gph pre-turbo and two 3 gph post-turbo nozzles, no IC. I have a 6 gal tank and mix 5 gal distilled water and 1 gal -20 ww fluid, mostly for the blue color so I can see the level easily (under bed mounted tank, remote fill) and a little cold weather protection. The controller is mounted on my dash so I adjust to the load/conditions, but I kept my EGTs right under 1150 pulling 10+k pounds from Southern California to Washington. Held 3rd gear doing 55-60 up the Grape Vine and no worries. I haven't tried a higher meth % yet...been waiting to mod my controller so I can switch between EGT and boost for that.

My Truck: 97 4x4 F250 CC SB E4OD 4.10's 207k miles. Fast spool turbo, stock injectors, 3" down pipe, 4" straight pipe, Dp Tuner flip switch, H2O/Meth injection, 203* thermostat, Evans Waterless Coolant, trans-go Tugger shift kit, big trans cooler, D60 swap, front coil spring conversion (3-4" lift), Superduty Icon 5" rear springs (no blocks), 255/85R16 BFG KM2's, import killer front bumper, 10k winch.

hey fordpride watched the gauge real careful and on a nice long straight stretch im runnin 615 or so at a 70 mph speed, is that too much? tachin just over 2000 rpm to do so. my temps rarely exceed 1000 normal driving unless its a real long grade. just wanted to holler at ford005 and say thank you out loud for coming back with the info i was hoping for, threw you some reps!! anyone else who has first hand or even second hand knowledge, even if its not on a stroke, id love to hear it. thanks again all.

You're welcome, and thank you!

I only concern was keeping my EGTs low and did a lot of research before I purchased anything. I also got 2 and 4 gph injectors in case the 1 and 3's were not enough. I was quite surprised, and very happy, that my setup worked so well. I am glad I got the 6 gal tank and worked out a slick remote fill. It left my bed completely open and I can fill it easily (with use of a funnel) even if I put my cap on.

I don't think you should expect much of a power boost from water injection, I think its more to help your engine handle the power you've added via boost. Basic purpose is to cool the air charge, just like an intercooler.

My other project is a 4.9L turbo firebird. They were a draw through design with a carburetor, so water injection is a popular option for cooling as it is the only thing you can do. The consensus on that forum seems to be that that best mix is 50/50 water/meth (which I think is standard mixture is in windshield washer fluid). The only purpose is really to stop detonation under too much boost. Diesels may have different effects though, I dunno.

In stock trim it wouldn't do my car much good, it might even hinder combustion, but when I start running up near 15 lbs boost it is required if I don't want to blow my engine up. On these rigs, an intercooler is an option, and probably a better one; although I imagine its not cheap.
