Revising my '81
My '81 has been great, but it needs a new/faster life. My intention is to rebuild the front-end to better/safer handling along with a Fordracing crate 302 engine and auto trans. I've dealt with Summit before but I'm wondering if there is another experienced place to buy? Thx.

You may want to hunt around locally. Shipping is a killer lately, and if you can order one through someone locally, or get a local engine shop to build the engine and a local tranny shop to build the tranny, it will be easier if you have a warranty problem and you will be throwing some of your money in the local economy. They will be able to give you more advice about your setup also.

If you are going thru the trouble of replacing a six cylinder with a V8, there no substitute for cubic inches. You might look at going to a 351 if you want to stay in the small block route, or go hog wild with 429/460 large block. You can find running engine from salvage sources locally, and there should be a machine shop that can do the rebuild work for you. Doing your own rebuild will give you greater option as to pistons, cam, valve train, etc. I would look for a newer roller lifter motor.
