I could use some help,, I have recently picked up a 351W block with a bunch of parts to build a clevor. Almost everything that is needed, but it came with 2 cranks, one substantially larger than the other. Is there anyway to identify what I actually have?? The parts that I have been able to ID are a set of '75 clevland 2v heads, Ford Motorsports Clevor pistons 40 over and a set of exhaust spacer plates.....
It used to be that people sought out 400 cranks to stroke 351W engines. The main and rod journals are the same size between the two engines, but the counterweights needed to be trimmed and block clearanced to fit the longer stroke crank. Also the crank snout needed to be modified as I recall.
Then there was a horrendous amount of balancing required to make it all work.
Nowadays it's a lot more practical to buy a cast aftermarket stroker crankshaft. And curiously, I have one of those 400 cranks and a few sets of Cleveland 2V heads from way back hanging around gathering dust in the basement....
Add to that the better heads now available for the W, and the fact that 351m/400 heads can be crack prone and probably need to be reworked, and the water passage issue has to be addressed, and the Cleavor deal loses it's luster....
I was thiking about continuing the project only because of the parts i recieved with the block. Everything i read is about modifications that need to be done. Its more likely that i will just build it to be a 351w nothing exciting just something to replace the tired 302 in my bronco...
