OK, im not being a smartass, but i know u said ur gauge says 1/4, but i have to ask the ? that is important: are u 100% positive there is fuel in the tank? dont feel dumb if not cz i think everybody has done that sumtime in there life workin on stuff
Well the tank definelty has gas it was brand new and I put in 4 gallons. I will do some more investigating tomorrow morning and see what I can find appreciate all the input so far....
1 more thing if I pour fuel down carb to see if I can get it running for a bit how much does it usually take?
I had simular trouble with my truck, after I put in a new tank, and rebuilt the motor, I could not get it to run as if I could not get any fuel to the carb. I poured gas in and it would fire off, and still could not get the fuel from the midship tank to the carb. I took the line off and poured gas in the line from the fuel pump till I knew the entire line was full of gas all the way to the tank and still could not get it to run unless I poured gas down the carb. The only thing left was the fuel pump, so I replaced it and it fired right off. It was frustrating, but a great relief after you get it solved.
Alright guys went out to do a little investigating this morning and here is what I found. I started by taking the fuel line off the pump to see if gas is even getting there and it poured out so gas is getting to the pump for sure. I unhooked the line that goes up to the carb and sprayed some carb cleaner down it to check for blockage and it flows right through. So could I have got a faulty pump from auto store just got the cheapest one so I guess it could have happened. Is there a way to check mechanical pumps this would be the second one I have had on it in a month can they get clogged up maybe?.....
Your at the same position I was and went and bought a new pump and it fired right off. Hard to believe two pumps and NO go, but I guess it is possible. I would go get a different pump and not at the same place, or same brand, and you should be up and running.
its is a dang good possibility that it is 2 bad in a row, ive bought 3 water pumps in a row one time b4 a good one come up, or 2-3 starters that started maybe 6 times a piece, this stuff is made by the lowest bidders anymore, so there aint no tellin what china man, Indonesian, etc is makin it
Alright guys after work today went out and pulled off the $15 pump from O'reillys just to check I got it in right. Reinstalled and gave her 3 good cranks and still no fuel getting to carb. Before I go on just a few questions:
1. If you stick your finger in the pump hole what should the arm feel like that works the pump I just felt kind of a rod that I could push back a little?
2. Is there any way a small hole or something that I couldn't see in the line going to the carb could be making it so the gas is not getting up to the carb?
3. If I do buy a new pump I am staying away from cheap and getting the holley part #12-854 as I will be running a new holley 4bbl here soon anyway or any other suggestions?
well, one last thing to check. that push rod should drop out of there. pull it out and make sure it doesnt look broken. im betting you got a bad fuel pump. so heres the deal. you have it off already, and its under warranty. so unless you live 30 miles from the parts store, why not just go exchange it?
alright guys first I wanna thank everyone who has helped so far and fuel problem solved. Went out and bought a new holley high performance pump (what a beast) and within 30 min had all the gas I needed. So now problem is still can't get it to fire but the front of my 2bbl motorcraft is leaking pretty good so I believe I blew the power valve in it. Guess I will do my intake carb swap earlier then I thought....

See my post i'm hving almost the same problem. By the 4/2 barrel adapterplate from O'Rielly's, its $17.00. Get you on the raod again asap. Swapping the intake is a real pain, it weighs about 70 pounds.
