Vac Secondaries ?

Vac Secondaries ?
I have a 600cfm Holley carb on my 79 Bronco 400. Engine is stock besides intake and carb. The secondaries currently have a "black" spring installed. I tried the paper clip test, secondaries are only opening about half way. Do I need to go to the next size down spring? Or is the problem that a stock engine just isn't capable of fully openin the secondaries? Thanks for any help.

IIRC the black spring is described by Holley as not ever fully opening. yeah, keep trying the next lighter spring until the secondaries open too soon and bog, then go back to the spring you liked best. don't remove the check ball
you can get a quick change spring housing cover, and there's a housing with an adjustment screw in it too
