Here is the scan that NumberDummy was referring to, although the pictures added above by Sano64 are probably all you will need. And yes, the lock portion (not the latch) does look like a standard hardware store cabinet lock.
Justa FYI I will be deleting my side tool box in my bed in the next couple weeks if anyone wants it I will sell it. Its in really good shape and from what I can see in side and out, its rust free.
Hi SixtySix Ford -
If your side tool box is for a long box and the price is right, I'm interested.
It's now open. I have to say that the lock is not what I call high security. The little tab that rotates on the lock cylinder finally just gave up and bent over. It didn't bend from me attempting to force it open but from me attempting to get the nut off the lock. Had I known that there was a locking washer with tabs that bend up to stop the nut from being turned I would have bent them down and turned the nut. I now know and so do you.
This box, on a long bed, is held in place by screws on the face, a bolt into the bracket (the bracket has two screws through he bottom of the bed) and two bolts from the top. I have not pulled the box yet so I'm not sure where these bolts attach.
I'm sure that the rubber seal is not available, but you never know. If it is I'd love to know a part number and availability. If anyone has replaced this seal in the past I'd appreciate any info you can provide.
And inside.... 2 sets of tire chains (now scrap metal), 2 innie hubcaps for a total of 5 as there were 3 in the cab (for a truck with outie wheels, but it is a camper special so I'm sure at one time it had 15" split rims) , and one tire iron, no jack (imagine that), and a hole bunch of bailing wire.
On the gasket, I saw a while back where NumberDummy posted the gasket is not available, and not reproduced. I plan to make one as best as I can as soon as my box comes back from paint.

Thanks!

Any luck making a custom gasket that fits right up?

I was reading this thread and realized the two built in-side-bed's storage boxes on my truck have what look to be the exact same Door Latch and Lock as in this diagram so I thought I would share...
custom fabricated storage with heavy duty latches and working locks, on both sides of the bed
The truck I recently bought has a bedside tool box but the truck didn't come with keys for it. For that matter the truck didn't come with any keys.
At this point the truck can't be moved to take it to a locksmith to be picked and rekeyed so I was just going to take the box.
I am attempting to remove it. I have removed all the screws on the face. I have ground off the two bolts that go through the bed floor and into the bracket on the rear (rear of truck) of the box. It won't budge. I think I can feel a bolt on the inner front of the tool box but i'm not sure.
I thought about just drilling out the lock but the only replacement lock (complete with handle) I could find was a NOS one for $100.00 and the locksmith was only $22.00.
Any help would be appreciated.
I bought a latch from Lowe’s and was able to just remove the locking mechanism from the door on my short bed. I had to do a little grinding to get it to work, but I got it to work so I have a brand new locking mechanism and brand new keys.

Not to hijack this old thread but I have not seen another Alaskan pop-up. I have the same one from 1958 in great original condition.
Pics are from the day I bought the truck in 11-2018. Drove it home 7mi and put it on blocks in a garage and haven't touched it since. And it's bonified 1965 Ranger.

That one looks really nice and even older than the one in my pictures. The one in my pictures is a 1966.
I am attaching a couple pictures of the new owners of the camper. The second picture is after the just graduated from high scholl young man had done quite a bit of work on it and apparently re-sealed the jack cylinders as they were slightly leaking and now he can jack the top half all the way up
First pic of when they purchased the camper and drove home with it about a month or so ago.
next two pics are after he made numerous repairs to it and washed it real good and now he is camping in it with his folkes and their camper set-up.
