Single shots will require a custom burned chip because your truck has split shots stock. Singles are noisier but make more power because there isn't fuel being spent on the pilot shot like there is with splits. Nearly all performance injectors are single shot.
They're also more efficient. More power, better economy, but a little (and I mean *a little*) noisier. I don't even notice the difference anymore. Worth it if you're changing stix anyway, for sure.
is it pretty much required to re-tune between split and single shots? I have an E99 as well that I about ready to change sticks out on and have been wondering this. I figured singles would be slightly louder, but really, running a 38r isn't quite anyway.
If you aren't having any issues with your stock injectors I would run them. If you are worried, buy or borrow an AE and see how everything looks. If you are set on buying injectors I would go with Alliant 'AC' or Reman Stage 1, same thing just Alliant are new. Only thing is with an Early 99, IMO, more fuel may push your stock turbo a little hard and create higher EGT's while towing. Just something to keep in mind.
Thanks for the response. I am not having any problems with injectors now. Only considering the thought because of the idea of having them out to change the "O" rings for preventative maintenance.
Be interesting to see which injectors I actually have. This truck is a very early 99 with a build date of 03/98 on the door.
If you aren't having issues I wouldn't consider injector o-rings preventative really. Unless you just really want a project I do admire your commitment to thinking ahead of having issues though.
I got the training course from TurboTraining.com and it talked about the "o" rings being a failure point due to the high pressure pulsating oil causing erosion.
