How much smoke.

Been reading through the site for a while now but can't find an answer to the situation i got......................................ok, got a 94 F350 7.3 turbo , just turned the IP up 1/4 turn , also turned the front of pump up 1/4 turn , this has woken the truck up pretty good , have'nt got a pyro yet so my bad........................floor this truck from the lights & it black smokes for around 2 seconds then cleans right up & all you see is a light haze of grey smoke when still on the gas peddle , is there more power to be had by turning up the pump a little more? , am i right in thinking black smoke all the time is bad due to ex gas temps? , in other words i can turn turn the pump up some more? , have no boost gauge as i only just got this truck so waste gate opens around 7 psi?

Thanks in advance.

Personnally I wouldn't, at least not untill you do instal a Pyro.

Maximum power is obtained when you see light black smoke. More smoke is completelly useless and is wasting fuel. Black smoke is unburnt fuel....

What do you use this truck for anyways?

definitely get a pryo before you turn the pump up any more because egt's are nothing to play around with, the more fuel you put to her the faster and higher those things are gonna climb also you can adjust the wastegate to get more boost out of her and there is another external screw as well to adjust for lower end boost if im not mistaken

All i know is the rod adjust on waste gate , shorten rod one turn is around 1 PSI boost? not sure where the other external adjustment is to crank up boost?........this truck is not used for hauling any loads , tis empty all the time & no hills in England to lug the motor.

When i get this truck rolling from around 10mph to 90 mph @ full throttle (maxed out) the stacks are clean with only a haze , i can see the stacke from the mirror & there is no black smoke , i don't want this truck to black smoke but on the other hand i don't want to leave power on the table , so i gather if there is no smopke then EGTs should be fine , heard a little smoke is ok & pretty normal? , i ain't even got a little bit of smoke when it starts haulin the mail.

I have my IP turned up 3 flats and will get a good haze at WOT. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being black as night I would give it a 5. The EGT does climb really quickly though.

Thanks guys , will try & turn out that adjustment screw on drivers side of IP , the one that sits @ 45* angle , i take it this screw will spool the turbo faster?

Sycostang , my F350 has stickers down the side like your's , are these painted @ the factory , can i remove them with a heat gun?

Thanks again.

Are you talking about the stripes or the 4x4 decals? Well either way they are factory and can be removed.

Sorry Guys i know this is off topic................

I'm talking about the paint/stickers on all doors & around truck (silver) , some say a heat gun won't remove em as there painted on.

Thanks.
if you wrap it, you are gonna see any dings, scratches and your gonna see the ridge where the center section is painted. to have a car wrapped you wanna have it smooth as can be.
