Hey fellas. Brand new here to the forum. A quick question about elec ignition converstion.
Yay or nay? I found this solution a few minutes ago and wanted advice. I read a thread that "adamantly" suggested getting rid of points, but wanted to know if this was a good fix.
Pertronix. Worth the extra because they work and you can get replacements much easier should you ever need one (unlikely). Easy installation too. Never heard of "Hot Spark".
I used to recommend the Duraspark system out of the newer Fords as it was a great bit of kit but it's more work to install and the components are far bigger. Pertronix made them obsolete.
I think Crane made/makes a system also but it's probably no cheaper than the Pertronix.
Not much to say. Been around a long time and do work fine for just doing away with the points setup. I've ran it on VW's, Mustangs with no problems other than don't forget and leave the key on. I have had them burn up due to that. For a full on electronic ignition, I am still partial to my Duraspark setups.
my local engine guy is a dealer for thems and has thems in stock! So I told him to set on aside for me! He also quoted me a 110 bucks for the Ignitor and coil
Good deal! It is one less adjustment that you'll have to worry about being wrong...
yes you are right for sure! However I really dont know why I want to spend the money for it? I mean hell my truck fires right off when you just bump the starter and runs like a kitten!!! but I know it will be money well spent in the long run for sure!!!
Unless you are realy going for performance the coil is kinda moot.
The price of $110 is increadable as I belive mine cost around $130 complete.
If you use both the coil and the ignitor you can gap your plugs at .045 if onlt the ignitor I would say .040 is about right.
Also, make sure to retime your ignition after you know it runs,
