Man your all about lighting huh! I have to say though I do love your accent lights especially the drive/fog lights up front the placement on them is perfect!
Ya I suppose I do like the tinted ones a bit better as well. I know they would look better on my truck too since I have been blacking things out. But for $50 I cant complain. They look great. Where can I get the tinted ones?
I am not going to gt rid of these ones yet (unless someone wants to trade their tinted ones ha) or buy the tinted ones yet, but I would like to know where and how much because once I black out my toolbox and wheels it will for sure have to happen.
I just replied to your PM, but forgot to mention that you might be able to have the regular ones tinted. I know they make a light tinting kit I've seen around. I can't find the link for it, but I know I've seen some guys use it and if you do it correctly it looks great.
ooh. wow, ya those recons are not cheap. I did get a great deal. And that sounds awesome! I would like to find out more about the tail light tinting kit. I'll have to research that. Anybody else have info on this? Thanks

Advance Auto sells a spray on tint. I've done it on a few projects of mine. You have to do it just right for it to come out perfect. The can is only a couple bucks and looks good if you do it right.
Well I am pretty good at painting things. I'm sure I can do it but it's just kind of sketchy trusting some $2 paint on some nice LED tail lights. I might go through with it. I am sort of a perfectionist so it would bother me if they didn't look right or were uneven etc. So it must must just be like a tinted clear coat?
I was thinking about actually getting them tinted. What do you think? I know that tint goes on the inside of windows and that they are glass, not plastic, but the guy who tinted my windows is really good. Anyone ever heard of getting actual tint on things like this? I wonder what he would charge me.

I've never tried but I dont know if you can get those lenses apart without damage. Also because they are curved both horizontal and vertical I don't know how it would come out with real tint. If I were you I would try tinting your original taillights with the spray first and see how it comes out and if you like it.
I was talking about having the tint ont the outside of them. Doesn't sound like a very good idea huh? Ya I wouldn't want to try to get inside of them.
And what a great idea! Only issue is that my originals are red, not a clear lense. So who knows if it will really show what they will look like. But I will do that for sure before I decide to do my LED's. That way I'll have some idea if it goes on even at least.
I went ahead and did it. Tried it on my stocks first and they looked awesome! So I did it on the LED's as well. I am really happy with the outcome. This is super cheap and easy to do. I even did my cab light thing after I took these pics. It didn't turn out quite as well. Must be a different composition to that plastic that reacts with the tinting stuff differently. Looks like I'll just have to get the LED cab light too. They look a little bit darker than the ones that come tinted but I think its just the time of day. They might be a little darker but not by much. Check them out:
Oh ya, I put LED 3157's in the back up light jacks. Its a cool color and way brighter.
Damn not bad! Told ya! lol Now I don't know how long that stuff holds up for. I assume normal wear and tear such as fading and scratches will occur after a while so might have to do it again sometime. But hell not bad at all!
haha thanks Mikey! I'm thinkin it should hold up for a long time. Maybe I'll even put a clear coat over the top just for another layer but not to make it any darker. I dont plan on throwing rocks at my tail lights so I dont think I have much to worry about.
