I need a new fuel gauge, to go along with my cheap sunpro gauges i have...Does anyone make one that uses the same ohm range as my 78 F150 does?
I was also wondering, was that a resistor on the back of the original instrument cluster? That little box thing that the printed circuit for the fuel gauge runs too, its like the size of a tootsie roll?

If you are talking about the little box that has a plug that looks like a 9v battery, thats the instrument panel voltage regulator.
The gauges won't function correctly if its not working right.
I tryed using the guts out of the old gauge and siliconed the new sunpro face on to it...but i dont think its gonna work because the sunpro has just a little bit larger sweep
If you're using the "guts" of the OEM fuel gauge then yes, you need to keep the IPVR for that one gauge only. The other (aftermarket) gauges, if they're electric use a full 12v for power, if they are mechanical it doesn't make any difference.
Hey mike....what about this gauge? I know it has a 0-90ohm sweep, but this is the only closest ohm range gauge...if it put it in, and hooked it up, since it has a larger sweep, wouldnt it tell me(when its truly full) that it would be just under full and (when its truly empty) it would tell me i had more?

The ohms range would probably work like you said, a little above E when its empty and I think it would be close enough that it would read F when full. The one thing I don't know is how the sending unit in the tank will handle the extra voltage. The gauge uses 12v and IIRC the Ford gauge uses 5-6 volts.
I don't know if this would burn out the sender or not, my guess is it would but not sure.
Ugh, this is going to be a PITA trying to find one that will work...do you know of any others that are at almost a direct replacement for the original?
