The truck is a 2001 f150 4x4 with a 5.4 and 185,000 miles on the engine. Far from a spring chicken. The truck has been sitten for a while due to front end problems but I needed a ride to work so I started to drive it. The truck ran perfectly fine at first just ate up gas that I couldnt afford. So I decided to do a little tune up by replacing the spark plug, oil and filter. I had only got 1 sided done before I ran out of daylight so I drove it home and it still ran fine. The next day I did side 2 and thats when the engine started running rough and it only seems to do it under a load in park or neutral it seems to run fine. I took it up to autozone to check the codes cyl 2 and 5 misfire so I replaced the coil packs. The engine smoothed out a little bit but still falls on its face when you put it in drive. Cleared the codes drove it till the CEl came on now its cyl 2 5 and 3 with bank 2 running lean. I'm thinking a vacuum line came loose or maybe the cat got clogged by burning off all the crap in the engine. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Wondering if you used dielectric grease on the coil boot tips?
If not, there is a chance the boots jambed off to the side of the plug tips, upset the spring locations and arc to the head.
The grease helps the boot 'auto center' on the plug tip and seat in place.
Get this checked out first, then address the lean code as a second issue you may have created while doing the work.
Good luck.
