engine mounts

Can anybody give me some kind of idea as to the different types of mounts they have used to install a small block V8 in their 53-56 F100.
Pics would help too. Either weld on or bolt on. I'll consider either type.
Thanks
DT

It depends on which V8. There are two basic types. One is a crossmember which goes under the engine and mounts to the inside of the frame and has tabs to bolt the engine to. This is usually a bolt on set up. The other is triangular shaped mount which welds to an inside boxed frame on the "feet" of the triangle, and the "point" has an engine specific fitting to match a Ford ( We hope ) or Chevy. I'm sure someone will post a pic before I can. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply
I'm staying with the ford in ford. Either 302 or 351. Maybe even a 289 if I can find one.
I'd probably prefer the bolt on over the weld on. Its pretty much going to be a daily drive once finished. Yes pics would be a great help.

I have a 289 in my 52 F1 and I am very happy with it. I'll take some pics of my mounts and try to post them. They are the same as a 302. If you're going bolt on, there are many sources for the crossmemeber type. If you need a supplier let me know, I'll post the web sites. I bought a 1968 Fairlane and pulled the 289/C4 and a 9" rear all for $300. Having all the parts already matched saves lots of problems trying figure how Ford made what in some production runs than others.

I'm lookin to pretty much do as you and find a donor with drivetrain intact.
Don't want to go any bigger than a 351W. Trying to keep it simple if thats possible.

Thanks for the kind words about my truck. I'm about a 1 1/2 hours from you up 95, just outside DC. You're on the right track, keep it simple. It gets hard enough anyway!!! There should be plenty of old donor cars around you. Head for the mountains. I found the truck and donor in West Virginia. Good Luck. Lots of good people on this site eager to help.

Watch eBay real close for the tubular bolt-in crossmember mount. CPP has been selling them for around $45 with free shipping. That's about half what the catalogs want. I picked one up and it's a decent looking piece.

Thanks for the heads up. Are they universal or do I need certain one?

Another good place to find them and pics is in the parts catalogues for various companies.

Here's a link to them in JEGS:

motor+mounts - JEGS High Performance.

The mounts you need are in this batch somewhere - I put a 289 in my 55 some years ago and got them at JC Witney - worked great:

Your Search Results - JCWhitney

And a few local links on the subject. You might use the Advanced Search here to find previous discussions. Here's two of the hundreds that are listed.

Yeah, a shortage of items, availability, and install tips here isn't going to be a problem. Probably deciding which ones will burn more brain cells!

Hint: be thinking about both your front end plans (staying stock or going IFS) AND exhaust routing space on the drivers side between the motor mounts and steering box (if you plan to stay stock there as well) - Sandersons

Planning on keeping stock front end but adding power steering from a toyota.
Probably not going to run headers. Just stock exhaust.

Here are a few more places to look: www.classicperform.com www.dennis-carpenter.com www.vintageford.com . BlueOval is right, a tubular crossmember mount is what you want if you're staying with the original front suspension
