I took my truck to my local shop with a bad miss, and no codes. The mechanic traced it to a bad plug, and coil on (you guessed it) the back cylinder. He went to take the plug out, and the bottom piece fell into the cylinder. He is at a loss as to what to do. The truck has 180,000 miles on it, and the plugs were changed at 90,000, by Ford who broke two plugs. Do not know how they fixed them, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it was that plug and one other. Any suggestions???
I just got my truck done last week. The guy who did it only broke 2 and they were in the back he said they drill into the plug and tap it. Then use the bolt to take it out. But if it fell into the cylinder then I would imagine they would have to take the head off. The ford dealer I bought my truck said it happened to a few people and it could cost over 800.
I didnt want to go to the dealer cause whats to say they wont make it go in there to remove the head. I took it to another guy and got it all done for 320. He said that the front 4 were changed already and the back 4 it looked like somebody tried to change them but with no luck. I would say get the removal tool or if that dont work the head will have to be removed.
The guy who was working on it was terrified to try to pull that last plug. I had the truck towed to the dealer. It seems that they have gotten this worked out. They quoted me $275.00 for a "tune up" and $79.00 a hole for every broken plug. The worrysome thing is that they had no clue on the miss, since it stores no codes. When I got this done at 90,000 miles, they would not even quote a price untill after it was done. It wound up costing me $750.00 for plugs. Will see how it goes.

Good luck! I hope you get by on the least amount possible and get your truck running ok, thats the main thing. They wont quote a price. It is like $350 min at the dealer for a full plug change. Mine was 1,000(90 for a new coil). They said the worst they had ever done, but they didn't have to pull the head, still like 7 hours labor. On the next one, if we are all still here(that's a long way away) I will prob get the lisle tool and do it myself. But, I put less than 10,000 a year on, and I just had them done at 79,000(I got 82,000 now). So we are talking a long time, cause I ain't pulling these early, I ain't sure it helps.
