listen to this... tell me if any of this has ever happened to you.
i was getting tired of getting 6 miles to the gallon, so in my quest for better mileage i decided i would start with the plugs. sure enough the old ones were toast. totally fouled and covered in carbon ( i found out after buying it that the truck's previous owner was said to be a oil company in canada... so lots of off road.. lots of towing...yadda yadda yadda...).
after i got all the plugs in i left the battery unplugged overnight to reset the computer, hoping that would help some also. the next day when i took it out to " re-learn" the transmission it was running like it was only hitting on 8 cylinders (man i love being able to say that and it be a bad thing). so i figured maybe i forgot to plug on of the coils back in. went back home and looked.... and they were all plugged in.. so maybe one didnt set right on a plug. i pulled them all, put some dielectric grease in the boot. that wasnt the case either.
possibly thinking maybe all this freed up power that these sweet new bosch platnium plugs are giving me the engine isnt getting enough fuel... so i changed the filter. sure enough it was plugged pretty good.
went for a drive and it still was running bad. it idled ok, but under a load it just kinda sputtered. i do the last things i can think of and put in some sea foam injector cleaner, clean and oil the filter, and clean the MAF. still not any better
giving up i take it to the local ford stealership. the next day he tells me somthing very strange.... one of my brand new plugs is bad. how can this be??? not my brand new plugs....
so i had to spend 70 some odd dollars to get some clown at a dealership to tell me i had a bad plug. a bad new plug...
personally i think bosch should pay me back for having to take it to a dealership for somthing so lame... i can tell you one thing i know which brand of spark plugs i'm not gunna buy after i put another 70,000 miles on my truck...:
sorry for such a long post..... i got caught up in the story....
I too have had a (bad) new plug, just a reminder next time you swap plugs buy one extra plug & then you can check these yourself to eliminate them as a root cause.
This also applies to thermostats,I have bought new thermostats & they too have not worked properly.
I use NGK plugs. They work well and last. Used Bosch once and they worked ok but did not last very long at all. It was not worth the money. In future if I were you, if replacing something and the truck does not work after. Rather than trying to find something else wrong with it. Try checking what you just fixed. If the truck ran fine before the plug change (other than bad mpg) and bad after?? That would tell me a plug may be bad.. New does not always guaranty a part is perfect. Then if all the plugs are good check other options. It will save time and money. All I think Bosch owes you is a new plug.
Not proof that Bosch plugs are bad but I have tried one set of Bosch platinum plugs in my Chebby, bloody expensive plugs. They went bad after 10,000miles, the old Delcos lasted 80,000.
I replaced the Bosch with Autolite, GM please forgive me, and they work great.
In my 250 I use Autolite.
I have had good experiences with Champion and Autolite and NGK. The one time I used Bosch they pooped me a pile, so I won't use them again.
I have used the Bosch whizz-bang, 4-electrode, platinum plugs in my sports car and they were terrible, mis-fired and fouled all over the place. Went back to Bosch single-electrode, copper plugs and have had no problems. Since I just got my F-250, I have no clue whats in there for plugs or what I'll put in when they need replacing. I've heard good things about NGK in general though.
Every few years a spark plug company comes out with a new gimmick. People continue to waste money on split electrodes, multiple electrodes, and platinum tips. The $1.25 Autolite still work the best and last the longest.
I used bosch plat plugs twice both times I had to pull them out after a couple miles the vehicles wouldn't run right....
I go to the dealer and get my plugs for my SD...Wholesale of course..

The platinum electrode plugs are not a gimmick, but I do agree with you on the Splitfires, Bosch +4s, etc ......
I actually dissagree about the splitfires.... to an extent. I broke down and bought splitfires when I had my 86 250, they didn't perform any better than Autolites (prefered brand) but they lasted three times as long. Not worth the extra $4 per plug though!
