.. You should start your own new thread for that question... anyways, your truck will hold up with your 400 inexpensively modified to 350-500HP (whatever power level you desire)... check out the other threads here on how to do that...

.. I had a '65 GTO with Pontiac 400 engine with the S-cam (214/214 degrees duration at .050" lift), 3 carbs., and 10.75:1 compression ratio... with 3.55 rear end and smallish 14" wheel 24" diameter car tires, it didn't particularly seem to need another gear and would run up to 140 MPH, because the engine loved to rev... and it got 17+ MPG in easy hiway driving... your 31" tires and same 3.55 rear should give almost an 'overdrive' feeling compared to that car... so... build your 400 the DiMora/Tim Meyer way and it will give much more satisfaction in every way...!!!

ive got a question for someone.
I've got a 1977 f150 ranger with the 400 in it and it was my dads and I've got it now and about to start doing some work on it. It needs to be put back in time and I want to start building the motor over time what should my first steps be and places I can find the right parts? And this will be a show truck once done. And has anyone ever supercharged a 400?

i ordered this kit form summit last year when i was thinking of molesting my 76 torino survivor car that had a 351M. i was going to make it into a 400, but since than i have traded to a 460 car and i can no longer use these parts if anyone can use them, let me know.
i have 2 seperate 4 barrel intakes for the 351M-400 one painted black, and the other not. i also have a small 390 cfm 4 barrel carburetor.
i have a high volume melling oil pump that i purchased to go along with this kit as well as an extra set of pushrods, because i wasnt sure if i would need them or not.
it also has a new set of valve springs made for the use of this cam and a double roller timing chain set.
the kit number is "comp cams k32-421-8"
the actual cam box says 32-421-8 cam specs are int 270. exh 270. dur @ 0.50: 215 215 lobe sep 110.0 valve lift 0.566 0.566
sn# wl3719-15
if i have to throw a number first, i would love to break even and get what i paid for, for them which was a little over a grand for everything in the kit, including the oil pump and additional set of push rods. but i also realize that for me to break even, it wouldnt be any different than if you went to summit and ordered the same set yourself, so i know that is somewhat unlikely on my part. so lets make a deal...i would hate for these to go to waste, since im not going to use them.

According to Bubba's website, the 1977 truck 400 made 158hp @3800, no torque rating given. For 1978 it shows hp still at 158 and 276 lb/ft of torque @2000. Since the hp rating is the same for both years the torque probably is also. As pathetic as 158hp is, you have to remember that's just how it was in those days, GM and Chrysler weren't doing any better. For example, the 1976 Cadillac 500ci V-8 made only 190hp, the 77 Chrysler 440 185hp, and the 460 in the Lincoln, 208hp. Tough times for horsepower fans...

i still have the kit, but as for the summit info, the only thing i could reccomend is call them with the comp cams info ive provided. when i ordered it i spent several days calling them and narrowing down the different package options that they had to offer till i picked this one.

I don't understand asking this question in an unrelated thread. But, go look at this thread in the 80-86 forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...efi-400-a.html
