You mentioned before you had 3.55's ? Rpms at 70 (you mentioned this as your top speed ?) with 31" tires, the rpm @ 70 is only 2800. That's hardly the top rpm of any 400, even the stock unmolested ones. If it is, then there's something SERIOUSLY wrong with it, gears aren't going to help it.

Don't get your panties in a wad. Take a chill pill. You jumped in here looking for advice, then when someone gave it, you "instructed them" that they were somehow ignorant of the facts. Now you're getting your dander up when I stepped in telling you how to fix your problem. You need to back off, take a deep breath and try to learn something here instead of quoting info you found on the web or in a book. The web and the books are chock full of information that's false. It's obvious to me that you're young and don't have much experience with these engines, there's nothing wrong with that, but don't get upset when things don't go your way. I've had experience in one form or another with the 400 for 40 years, starting with one in a 71 Ford Custom that belonged to a friend in high school in the mid 70's. I've built two others.

I'm more than well aware of your truck's role in your life. I've been driving 18 wheelers for 35 years. Been driving period for 40. Over 4 million miles in all kinds of vehicles, wheeled and tracked. If it moves, chances are I've driven it or something just like it.

At redline, these trucks can do 100+. It's just a matter of having the power to bring it up to that speed.

After 1971, all the 400s came with dished pistons that looked much like these.
