This i believe is transmission related. WHen i first got my IDI i noticed a small black box hangin underneath the truck, it was right by the tranny the box is maybe 3-4 inch by 3-4 and maybe 1 inch thick? I was all cracked full of mud and run over ( kids use to mud this truck). Anyways what could this box have been ? My tranny shifts fine but seems like the converter locks up and unlocks when in 3rd and overdrive ??? please help
my tq will lock up right when it shifts into third and then will unlock, locking will be like 1900 then drop down to like 1500ish +/- also my reverse lights do not work? don't mean to hijack
Thanks for the picture now i can remove that MLPS from the list. That IS NOT what im looking at, this box was just hanging from the passenger side only thing going to it were wires to a plug so i just unplugged it becuase is was all cracked and run over. i would try to post a pic BUT it was tossed in the scrap pile for some reason and now i have to just go off my description and hope someone knows what im trying to explain
Is it an E4OD?
Was it near the wiring running into the tranny at the aft passengers side?
Did it have just one 4-pin connector coming out of it (3 or four wires)?
If this all checks out, it sounds EXACTLY like a Banks TransCommand module.
If it was originally connected to your current tranny harness, the harness coming into the tranny should have a 4-pin connector hanging out of it near the main connector (hidden behind a small heat shield). If the module is disconnected, there should be a shunt in the harness side that effectively bypasses the mod.
The unit looks like this:
(Seems like diesel units are plated steel while gassers and older units may have been black, but dont quote me on it)
Im pretty sure your exactly right! thank you! now with the module unplugged would that be cuasing my converter to be goin crazy ??? if so how do I fix this problme ?
During the install, you divert some wires into the 4-pin connector on the harness that connects to the TransCommand module. If you remove the module, that circuit is open, and this is the circuit that controls clutch line pressure in the tranny.
Bypassing this is the purpose of the shunt; its a 4-pin connector that goes on the matching 4-pin connector near the tranny harness. All it has is one wire, connecting one pin to another to complete the circuit as if there were no connector there at all.
Take a look on your truck, if the shunt isn't there, you'll want to either manually shunt it (solder two of the three wires together) or re-attach the module, if it still works. If you want to do this let me know, I can look up which two wires it is that you have to solder together. Even better, if the connector on the harness is in good enough shape, you can pull the wires and return it to factory arrangement, removing all traces of the module.
If the shunt is there or someone already shorted the wires, there's something else unrelated wrong. If the connector isn't there, someone already pulled the wiring, and your tranny has other issues (maybe they pulled the wiring and put it back together wrong!)
The whole line pressure thing sounds exactly like whats goin on, it like will build enough to lockup and unlocks over and over which is probly not good at all on the tranny yet very annoying especially when your date goes "Whys your truck driving so funny" haha anyways right now when i crawled under there i have the plug where i had unplugged the module which runs up the the passenger side of the tranny, I believe the dead giveaway that this is the module kit is becuase theres a ground wire with a connecter thats not factory goin to a ground. so as of right now i have a open plug harness coming from my right side of the tranny. Your help is very very apreciated ! So yes if you could walk me through which wires i should connect in this plug. I still cannot find the module ( pretty sure it got thrown away)
